Big Ten sets women's basketball schedule

The 2010-11 Big Ten schedule for women's basketball will feature 37 regular season conference games broadcast for a national audience.

Former suburban basketball stars from the Daily Herald area playing in the Big Ten include:

Illinois: 6-3 junior forward Lana Rukavina from Wheeling High School

Michigan State: 6-4 sophomore center Kelsey Smith from St. Charles North

Michigan: 6-3 sophomore forward Sam Arnold from Lake Park High School

Northwestern: 5-10 junior guard Allison Mocchi and 5-11 junior guard Maggie Mocchi of Buffalo Grove High School, 5-9 freshman guard Meghan McKeown of Loyola Academy, and 6-5 senior center Amy Jaeschke of New Trier

Purdue: 6-0 sophomore forward Ashley Wilson from Wheeling High School

Wisconsin: 6-2 junior forward Ashley Thomas from Loyola Academy

The Big Ten Network will carry 32 regular season conference games, along with four on ESPN2 and one on CBS Sports.

Additionally, the Big Ten Network will televise 14 non-conference games nationally and will stream a select number of non-conference and conference games on www.bigtennetwork.com.

All 10 games of the Big Ten Women's Basketball Tournament, held March 3-6, 2011, at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, will be televised nationally. The first nine games will appear on the Big Ten Network, while the championship game will be broadcast on ESPN2.

Each Big Ten team will be featured at least five times on national television during the conference season, which begins on Thursday, Dec. 30, with 10 of the conference's 11 teams in action.
