3 historic Cook County buildings to be renovated

Three historic buildings that stand in Cook County's forest preserves will undergo renovations this winter.

The Forest Preserve District of Cook County says the structures were all originally built in the early 1930s. Work is scheduled to be finished by the end of the year.

The Dan Ryan Woods Warming Shelter on Chicago's Southwest Side will have added insulation, new heating and air conditioning and new doors and windows. The shelter was first built for ice skaters and sledding aficionados who used a nearby hill. The Eggers Grove Comfort Station in Chicago's East Side neighborhood was for picnickers. It will be getting a new roof and windows.

Two-thirds of the Thatcher Woods Pavilion in River Forest will be renovated. One-third of the building was remodeled in 2008.
