Rolling Meadows grocery scam fails

Maybe the weight gave them away. A man and a woman filled a Captain Crunch box with 18 packages of razors and tried to get the box through the automatic checkout at the Jewel/Osco, 3400 Kirchoff Road, Rolling Meadows on Jan. 2, police said.

The automatic checkout, which monitors the weight of items being placed in the packaging area, would not allow the transaction, and an employee tried to help. When he picked up the box, he found it unusually heavy and learned the cereal had been replaced with the razors, valued at $510.

The pair fled the store without the products.
