NISRA presents ‘Arts Around the World’
Submitted by NISRA
Arts enthusiasts are invited to “Arts Around the World” cultural arts night Tuesday, May 22, at The Hemmens, 45 Symphony Way in Elgin.
The evening includes an art exhibit along with music, dance, and drama performances by participants in Northern Illinois Special Recreation Association programs for people with disabilities.
The stage of the Hemmens provides the professional backdrop to showcase the talents of the actors, dancers and musicians, with props provided by Cary-Grove High School.
The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. with refreshments and viewing a gallery of artwork by participants, some of which will be for sale. The art will remain on display until Monday, June 4.
At 7:30 p.m., the music, dance and drama performances begin. Excerpts from the musicals “Aladdin” and “Fiddler on the Roof” will be performed by NISRA actors trained by Christian Youth Theater staff and volunteers.
The voices of NISRA’s Encore Joyful Noise Choir will fill the auditorium when prompted by their coaches from the Encore Music Academy. Children from NISRA’s early childhood and youth ballet programs will charm the crowd.
Dance performances by adults from the Association for Individual Development in Elgin and the Pioneer Center in McHenry complete the show.
An extension of 13 local park districts and cities, including the City of Elgin, NISRA provides year-round community recreation and local Special Olympics for residents with disabilities. Call (815) 459-0737 for information, visit www.nisra.org or find NISRA on Facebook.
