Steamboat Museum's carriage house slated for renovation

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (AP) - A southern Indiana museum dedicated to steamboats and riverboats is getting an upgrade that will turn its carriage house into rental space for events.

The Howard Steamboat Museum in Jeffersonville will hold a groundbreaking Tuesday marking the start of the yearlong renovation in the Ohio River city.

The News and Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/2gdMaHQ ) the estimated $1.2 million project will include installing modern heating and air conditioning, a new roof and a room that will house a warming kitchen, restrooms and a bar.

Roger Fisher is president of the museum's board of directors. He says museum officials have "been dreaming about this for 16 years."

The upgraded, 130-year-old carriage house will become rental space for community events, weddings and other gatherings, with a main room seating about 100 guests at tables.
