Free bone marrow drive Saturday in Des Plaines

Want to save a life? Let health care workers take a cheek swab to see if you could be a bone marrow donor for a cancer patient with leukemia or lymphoma.

DKMS Americas, the largest marrow donor center, will hold a free bone marrow drive from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sat., Feb. 13, at Maryville Academy, Stein Center, 1150 N. River Road, Des Plaines.

Donors must be 18 to 55 and in general good health. They will be checked through a cheek swab to see if they match any of the cancer patients in the registry.

There will also be a fundraiser bake sale, with helium Valentine's Day balloons and Fannie May candy.

DKMS also needs donations to cover the $65 cost to analyze samples.
