Train strikes car in Des Plaines

An outbound Metra train struck a car as it approached the Des Plaines station near River Road and Miner Street this evening.

About 6:30 p.m. Delia Enrique, of Niles, was drive north on River Road in a Honda Civic when she stopped on the tracks past the railroad gates, Des Plaines police said.

The gates came down behind Enrique’s car, and the train struck the front passenger’s side wheel of the vehicle. The train pushed the car off the tracks onto Ellinwood Street, police said. Enrique sustained minor injuries and was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

The crash delayed Metra trains on the Union Pacific Northwest Line more than an hour.
