Widow of Ebony magazine founder dies
The widow of Ebony magazine founder John Johnson has died.
According to the Chicago-based Johnson Publishing Co., Eunice Johnson died Sunday.
The cause of death of the 93-year-old Johnson was not immediately available on Monday.
Eunice Johnson was director and producer of the Ebony Fashion Fair since 1961. The traveling fashion show goes through nearly 200 cities each year. She was also a secretary-treasurer of Johnson Publishing, which produces JET and Ebony, two of the longest-running black-oriented magazines in the country.
Her husband John Johnson died in Chicago in 2005. He founded both magazines after World War II.
Eunice Johnson is credited with naming Ebony magazine. Her daughter, Linda Johnson Rice, now heads the publishing company.
