Author to portray American explorer Meriwether Lewis

Humanities scholar and author Clay S. Jenkinson will visit the Geneva History Center and adopt the character of Meriwether Lewis, best known for his role as the leader of the Lewis and Clark Expedition with William Clark, whose mission was to explore the territory of the Louisiana Purchase.

In addition, Jenkinson will answer questions you may have about Lewis and the Lewis and Clark Expedition.

Jenkinson first achieved fame for his first-person portrayal of Thomas Jefferson. He is the recipient of the National Endowment for the Humanities highest award, then called the Charles Frankel Award, for his humanities-based, first-person interpretation methodology.

The program will be from 10 to 11:15 a.m. Saturday, March 20, in the community room at the Geneva History Center, 113 S. Third St. Tickets are $25 and payment in advance is suggested.

All attendees will receive a voucher enabling them to purchase a ticket for $30 to attend Jenkinson's portrayal of physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, at Waubonsee Community College Sugar Grove campus auditorium at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 20.

Oppenheimer is best known for his role as the scientific director of the Manhattan Project, the World War II effort to develop the first nuclear weapons. WGN radio host John Williams will serve as master of ceremonies.
