One dead in head-on collision on Route 25 in Wayne

A 22-year-old St. Charles Township man died early Wednesday when his car hit an oncoming truck on Route 25 in the village of Wayne.

Police Chief Daniel Callahan identified the deceased as Cory McIlvaine of Tuscola Avenue in the Valley View area of St. Charles Township. He said McIlvaine was driving south about 1:23 a.m. when his 1995 Oldsmobile crossed the center line and hit an oncoming 2006 Ford F-250 truck.

McIlvaine was pronounced dead at the scene; the other driver was treated for minor injuries and released, officials said.

Callahan said there was no immediate evidence to indicate alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash, but routine toxicology tests are pending.

"It's a major accident, so it's going to be an ongoing investigation for a while," he said.

The crash happened on stretch of Route 25 near Army Trail Road where there's a hill and a curve. The state highway was closed until about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday as authorities investigated.
