Grimston quits campaign for DuPage County Board seat

Tom Wendorf's campaign to be the Democratic Party's nominee for the District 4 seat on the DuPage County Board just got a little easier.

Wendorf's competitor, Tom Grimston, announced he is dropping out of the race and is supporting Wendorf's candidacy. Grimston, a 58-year-old deputy court clerk from Wheaton, did not explain his decision to end his campaign abruptly.

However, voters using absentee ballots will still see Grimston's name, as will early voters who can begin going to the polls today. His name will appear on ballots when voters go to the polls in the Feb. 2 primary as well.

Grimston had initially campaigned on an environmental platform and also pushed to bring new jobs to the county.

Wendorf said he was surprised by Grimston's decision.

"I think that competition in elections is always good because it helps refine your message," Wendorf said. "I appreciate his support and appreciate the fact that he called me to notify me of the decision."

Assuming Wendorf wins the Democratic nomination, he will face off against either incumbent Republican JR McBride or challenger Brad Webb in November.
