Fitness program promotes positive body image among teens

The Geneva Park District will offer a new "Move It to Lose It Fitness Challenge" for teens."Move It to Lose It" has helped participants lose more than 600 pounds since last September. Now, the park district is offering it for ages 13-18.

Teens will learn how to improve their lifestyle through exercise, diet and positive goal making. Under the guidance of a certified personal trainer, teens will take a six-week journey toward a much more positive attitude about their body image.

This challenge encourages teens to lose weight and feel great about themselves while doing it. There will be an optional confidential weigh in at the beginning and end of the challenge.

Each teen will participate in a weekly workout session, followed by a nutrition and goal setting discussion. Each participant will also receive 3 half-hour one-on-one personal training sessions. Gaining positive self esteem and body image is the main objective of this fitness challenge.

Classes run from 5 to 6 p.m. June 8 to July 15, with no class on July 13. Registration is under way. Fee is $75 for fitness members and $125 for nonmembers.
