Convicted Aurora child molester sent to prison
An Aurora man was sentenced Thursday to seven years in prison for molesting a young girl, prosecutors said.
Alexander G. Thomas, 21, of the 600 block of North Harrison Avenue, pleaded guilty to one count each of predatory criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse, the most serious of which is a Class X felony.
Prosecutors said Thomas had sexual contact with a girl between July 22, 2006, and Oct. 13, 2009, when the victim was younger than 13. The girl was not a stranger to Thomas, authorities said.
Kane County Circuit Judge Timothy Q. Sheldon agreed Thursday to sentence Thomas to concurrent prison terms of seven and five years in exchange for his guilty pleas.
Thomas must also register for life as a sex offender, avoid contact with the victim, and have no unsupervised contact with minors.
By law, he must serve at least 85 percent of the prison term, or nearly six years. He was given credit for 319 days already served in the county jail.
Assistant State's Attorney Nydia Molina, assigned to the Kane County Child Advocacy Center, prosecuted the case.
