Naperville's Jefferson Ave. bridge closing soon

The Jefferson Avenue Bridge over the West Branch of the DuPage River in Naperville will be closed for reconstruction beginning in about six weeks, city officials announced Thursday.

The start of the work is weather dependent; but the bridge is scheduled to reopen by Aug. 27.

Built in 1962 west of downtown, the bridge is rapidly deteriorating and has reached the end of its life expectancy. When complete, it will include two lanes, each wide enough to accommodate vehicular and bicycle traffic, as well as protected sidewalks for pedestrians.

As part of the project, Jefferson Avenue will be reconstructed from Willoway Drive to Parkway Drive.

Residents can receive e-mail alerts on the project by registering at www.naperville.il.us/enews.aspx.
