Carpentersville burglar gets 3 years

An Ohio man was sentenced in Kane County Wednesday to three years in prison for stealing a DVD player and plasma-screen television from a Carpentersville residence last fall.

John David B. Dulik, 21, of Cleveland, pleaded guilty to Class 2 felony burglary in exchange for the sentence under a plea deal approved by Judge Thomas E. Mueller. He had faced up to seven years in prison.

Assistant State's Attorney Scott Schwertley said Dulik stole the items belonging to his girlfriend's roommate Nov. 24 after the girlfriend left a window open for him. Schwertley said Dulik had told his girlfriend he was leaving the state and "needed some money."

Dulik was arrested after the victim said she suspected her roommate, authorities said. He later told police he was only a lookout, Schwertley said.

In addition to the prison term, Dulik was ordered to pay $1,800 in restitution and court costs. He was given credit for 51 days served since his arrest.

Prosecutors said Dulik also was on probation in Ohio, where he was charged with theft and forgery in 2007, at the time of his arrest, and he may face additional consequences in Ohio as a result.
