Batavia’s Rutas blanks Marmion

Batavia’s Michael Rutas won a pitcher’s duel over Marmion’s Tyler Friel in the Bulldogs’ 1-0 victory Monday at Elfstrom Stadium.

Batavia (13-15) scored the only run of the game in the last of the seventh on a Nick Pappas single to make a winner of Rutas, who allowed only 3 hits to improve to 5-3.

Kyle Kozak had 2 of those hits and reached base all 3 times getting hit by a pitch in his other at-bat.

Friel (3-3) fanned four and also allowed 3 hits for Marmion (17-8).
