Stages are set for performances in Batavia

After three years of planning, fundraising, development and construction, the new Peg Bond Center Performing Arts Pavilion in Batavia is ready for a full season of performances. The pavilion will provide an outstanding venue for local musical groups, community festivals, dramatic productions and more.

“This is the latest successful project completed in Batavia due to the strong sense of community held by our residents, local businesses, service organizations and governmental agencies,” said Dan Brace, Batavia Parks Foundation chairman, “It is the result of hundreds of volunteers and donors who got involved to make it happen. What has been accomplished is very impressive.”

The community is invited to celebrate the grand opening and dedication of the pavilion from 2-8 p.m. Sunday, May 22. Bring a lawn chair or blankets and take in a variety of local talent. The dedication and ribbon cutting will be at 2 p.m.; Aurora Youth Symphony at 2:15 p.m.; Electric String Orchestra at 3:15 p.m.; Batavia Academy of Dance at 4 and 5:15 p.m.; Red Tie Trio at 4:30 p.m.; Albright Theatre performance at 5:45 p.m.; and Field Day at 7 p.m.

In addition to a full line up of performances, paddle boats will be in operation from 2-8 p.m. on the Riverwalk, off Houston Street. The cost is $10 per half-hour for a four-person boat.

The event is presented by the Batavia Parks Foundation, Batavia Park District, Batavia Main Street and the City of Batavia. The Batavia Parks Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization. Their mission is to enhance open space, parks, facilities and recreational programs within the city of Batavia.
