Palatine resident wins cinematography award

If Lewis Meyer continues down this same creative path, then the hardware he picked up at an awards ceremony earlier this month likely won’t be his last.

The Palatine resident, who is a student at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, won Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography at the 2011 Dusty Film and Animation Festival and Awards for his film, “In the Grass.”

Meyer was one of just a handful of winners selected from more than 100 films created by students graduating from the school’s film, video and animation department.

In its 22nd year, the event took place May 6-10 and featured presenters who are leaders in the film, TV and animation industries, including actor/director Edward Burns.

The presenter of Meyer’s award was cinematographer Declan Quinn, who counts “Leaving Las Vegas,” “Rachel Getting Married,” and “Pride and Glory” among his body of work.
