Abbott in DuPage County Board District 3, Republican
Three strong Republican candidates are vying for a spot on the District 3 DuPage County Board. The field includes former Assistant Illinois Attorney General Greg Abbott, now in private law practice; Dennis Brennan, a member of the county health board and a school board president in Hinsdale, and former Downers Grove Mayor Brian Krajewski. They are seeking to replace retired county board member Kyle Gilgis.
All three would make good county board members. Krajewski's municipal experience is a plus and Brennan has knowledge of county government through his board of health work. But we're especially impressed with how passionately Abbott, of Downers Grove, has come down on the side of ethics reform. He doesn't mince words on his stance. "You shouldn't take one penny from vendors," he told the Daily Herald editorial board. "I don't know how anyone thinks you can oversee contracts for vendors when you're taking their money to finance your campaigns."
We'd like to see him in office to help implement such reforms. Abbott's Springfield experience, as an assistant attorney general, would be an added bonus.
District 3 includes all or parts of Bolingbrook, Burr Ridge, Clarendon Hills, Darien, Downers Grove, Hinsdale, Lemont, Westmont, Willowbrook and Woodridge.
