Model profile: The Sonoma in Thousand Oaks, Spring Grove

A stone entry with island garden welcomes visitors to Thousand Oaks, a new home community where custom homes sit among ancient trees and rolling hills.

The community by KLM Builders Inc. features 74 one-acre homesites nestled within 110 acres of pristine woods with a wetland conservation area that is home to migratory birds and other wildlife.

In this setting of natural beauty, KLM Builders presents the new Sonoma ranch model that showcases a variety of options and upgrades which homebuyers can select for their new custom home.

Situated off Winn Road in Spring Grove, the community sits just a short drive from shopping, medical services, train service and other amenities along Route 12.

Residents can also enjoy outdoor fun such as boating and fishing on the Fox River and the Chain O’ Lakes, challenging area golf courses and thousands of acres of McHenry County land set aside for year-round activities, from hiking and horseback riding to cross-country skiing and ice skating.

“Thousand Oaks is well-known for its charming neighborhood, mature trees and the incredible setting offered by our exclusive one-acre wooded lots,” said Kim Meier, president of KLM Builders. “One of our newest signature ranch homes, the Sonoma, was designed for those who appreciate the peace and privacy of natural surroundings.”

The Sonoma is priced from $369,900 and features 2,441 square feet, three bedrooms plus study, 2½ baths, full basement, three-car garage and optional sunroom or screened porch.

The model home features a sophisticated open interior decorated by Sally Meier with upscale furnishings, warm earth tones and rich fabrics. Five-inch wide hand-scraped oak floors, crown molding and some double crown molding show the custom craftsmanship found throughout the home.

The home features a lot of windows and glass with picturesque views of its natural surroundings, 10-foot ceilings, 8-foot doors, interior arches and thicker walls with radius corners. Homebuyers will love the wireless iPad built into the home that controls the sound, temperature and lighting.

Off the foyer, the den or flex room shows a coffered wood beamed ceiling and is outfitted as a home office. Silk embroidered draperies dress the windows while an ornate framed mirror and artwork adorn the walls.

Straight ahead from the foyer, a fireplace, flanked by architectural niches and mirrors, highlights the great room. The room includes luxury furnishings, silk sheer draperies and a volume ceiling. A large area rug adds a touch of teal.

In the showpiece kitchen, polished granite countertops and stainless steel appliances give a rich look to the space that is both beautiful and functional. The room overlooks the great room so homeowners in the kitchen can interact with other family members or guests. The room includes an island and walk-in pantry.

Also open to the great room, the dining room features an oval table topped with a stunning centerpiece of mirrors and glass that is set for six. Two framed mirrors give the room a spacious feel.

In the split bedroom layout, the master suite and secondary bedrooms sit on opposite sides of the home.

French doors lead into the master suite where a wall of windows provides picturesque views of the backyard. A four-poster bed covered with luscious soft peach silks and an array of beautiful pillows beckons homeowners.

The master bath features double vanities of rich, dark cabinetry topped with black granite, tub with tile surround and spacious walk-in shower. Three elongated mirrors bring a creative touch into the room while candles and crystal containers create a dramatic ambience.

The home features two spacious secondary bedrooms, fully adorned with fine furniture and luxurious bedding with easy access to a full bath.

The “teenage dream” bedroom done in pink and white showcases a Katy Perry theme with wall murals portraying the pop star. This is a must-see for all. The third bedroom features a chocolate and teal color scheme and also showcases a pastoral wall mural.

Family and friends will enjoy the full daylight basement furnished as a family and game room. A sectional and chaise lounge provides plenty of seating while a game table will host a good poker game or any game of choice. A wet bar with beverage center and microwave make it easy to serve up guests their favorite drinks.

The lower level also features a fourth bedroom done in gold and teal, bath and an abundance of storage space.
