One death out of place in year's recap

I read with much sadness in the Dec. 28 Daily Herald of the many lives lost in 2010. There were many stories of people less than half my age who are gone now as a result of senseless tragedies.

One that really hits home with us is the story of Katie Lunn, a young, talented, beautiful dance instructor who was killed leaving a dance competition at Governor's State University. We have been heavily involved with competitive dance for over 10 years and were at a competition the week before the accident. My wife and I had commented on the dangers of that intersection with the four-way stop signs and train tracks. We did not know Katie, but we felt a sense of loss because we understand the passion and commitment these dance instructors have. I am sure there are many people who will miss her in the years to come, with many of them not even having the opportunity to ever meet and be taught by her.

As I scanned down the page below Katie's tribute, I noticed a picture of Dan Mojziszek. Did the Herald do their homework on this one? The fact that you put his story on the same page as all these others is quite troubling, in my opinion. I lived behind Mr. Mojziszek for many years. I watched him yell at the trees, fight phantom figures and wrestle with the police. We could not let our children play out in the yard when he was home for fear of their safety.

His ending, while tragic, may have actually allowed others not to be harmed in the future. Including this man's story with that of Katie Lunn's is not only disturbing, but warrants a retraction.
