Carol Stream man faces pot charges
A Carol Stream man accused of growing marijuana in his home was ordered held on $150,000 bail Wednesday.
Przemyslaw Marciniak, 27, is charged with one count of delivery of cannabis. He could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted of the felony charge.
Marciniak was arrested Tuesday at his home on the 1200 block of Robin Drive, prosecutors said, after Carol Stream police and a K-9 unit arrived as part of a drug investigation.
“Before the K-9s even entered, the garage door opened and in full view of the officers were over 30 cannabis plants hanging upside-down, drying,” Assistant DuPage County State’s Attorney Nick Catizone told Judge Michael Wolfe at a bond hearing Wednesday.
Marciniak told officers he had been running a “full-time operation,” growing and harvesting about 30 plants at a time Catizone said. He said the defendant admitted selling the marijuana for more than $300 an ounce.
In court, Marciniak disputed that he said it was a full-time endeavor. He told the judge he drives a truck for a living and earned about $40,000 last year.
“I’m not a criminal,” he said.
Catizone said Marciniak has a prior conviction for misdemeanor battery in connection with a home invasion in another county.
Wolfe set Marciniak’s bail at $150,000, meaning he would have to post $15,000 to be released. His next court date is June 27 in front of Judge Daniel Guerin.
