Man charged with stalking, recording woman in Elgin
Jose Salgado, 39, of the 6100 block of North Campbell Avenue, Chicago, was charged Thursday with stalking and unauthorized video recording and live video transmission — both felonies — for following a female co-worker home in February and recording her while she undressed through her bedroom window, Elgin police said.
Salgado also sent the video to someone else’s cell phone and that person notified the victim, police reports said. The woman told police Salgado had been harassing her at work for some time before the incident and that she reported him to management, reports said. Elgin Police Spokeswoman Sue Olafson said the two had been in a romantic relationship that ended a few years ago.
A judge set Salgado’s bail at $30,000 Friday, which means he needs $3,000 to post bond while the case is pending. He is due in court March 10 at the Kane County Judicial Center and if found guilty of either charge, he could spend between one and three years behind bars.
