Cold weather isn't going anywhere for now
Area residents are bundling up against brutally cold temperatures that are expected to last for several days.
The National Weather Service says it'll get no warmer than 10 degrees in Chicago on Tuesday before falling to single digits at night.
Eight people have died due to the cold weather, including a 70-year-old man found frozen in his home in Des Plaines.
Mary Paleologos of the Cook County medical examiner's office says the man was found in an unheated home in a trailer park on Sunday. She says the cold weather also caused the death of a 71-year-old man who was found dead in his car in Glenview last Thursday.
Meanwhile, officials in Chicago have opened a number of warming centers and say there are more than 3,700 beds available for people who need shelter overnight.
Meteorologist Matt Friedlein says temperatures will climb into the 20s on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. But winds are expected to pick up Friday night, sending wind chills close to zero.
