Carpentersville police arrest two in coke sting
Carpentersville police have arrested two men in a one-time undercover operation that occurred Wednesday afternoon and took 13.5 grams of cocaine off the street, police said.
Bernardo Cuellar, 46, of the 400 block of Singapore Lane in Carpentersville, and Moses Ramirez, 49, of the 500 block of Shadow Drive in Harvard, were subsequently charged with the manufacture and delivery of cocaine and cocaine possession, police said.
According to Cmdr. Timothy Bosshart, police arranged to meet Cuellar at 4:30 p.m. drug buy in a local parking lot, but he told police he was waiting for the supplier to bring him the drugs.
“That’s when Moses showed up and met with Cuellar and Cuellar met with officers,” Bosshart said, adding that police arrested both men shortly thereafter.
Cocaine typically has a street value of between $60 and $80 a gram, Bosshart said. That means the drugs police seized were worth between $810 and $1,080.
On Thursday morning, a judge set bail for each man at $150,000, which means they need $15,000 to ensure their freedom while their cases move through the courts.
According to the Kane County Sheriff’s Department website, both men still remained behind bars, as they were unable to post bond.
They are scheduled to appear in court Jan. 19.
If found guilty of the most serious charge — manufacture and delivery of cocaine, they could spend between four and 15 years in prison.
