Suburban sheepdog wins Best in Breed at Westminster

Most dog owners think their pet is a winner, but one suburban dog actually will come home with a medallion.

A Belgian sheepdog from Batavia was named Best in Breed Monday at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show at Madison Square Garden.

Grand Champion Bonntymes Keepin It Real at Devine, a 3½-year-old male, competed in Monday night's Best in Group competition, but didn't finish in the top four.

In all, 26 dogs moved up in the herding group. The winner of the herding group, a German Shepherd, will move on to the Best in Show competition on Tuesday night, competing against the winners of six other groups: Sporting, Hound, Working, Terrier, Toy and Non-Sporting.

The Batavia dog is owned by Susan M. Manier, who wasn't available on Monday to discuss her dog's successful day.

The Sporting, Working, Terrier and Best in Show competitions will be televised live Tuesday from 7 to 10 p.m. on the USA Network.
