Tourists from 5 nations victims in Ethiopia attack

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia — An Ethiopian official says that four people were kidnapped in an attack by gunmen on a group of European tourists in northern Ethiopia.

Bereket Simon, the country’s communications minister, said two foreigners were among those kidnapped. The nationalities weren’t immediately clear. Two Ethiopians were also kidnapped.

Bereket said that Austrian, Belgian, German, Hungarian and Italian nationals are among the foreign tourists attacked by gunmen. The attack killed five people and wounded two.

Bereket said the attack happened at 5 a.m. on Tuesday. Earlier reports said the attack happened Monday.
