Wheeling crash victim identified

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office on Friday identified the victim of Wednesday night’s fatal crash in Wheeling as Christine Stamatis of Arlington Heights.

Stamatis, 55, was pronounced dead at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge at 12:20 a.m. Thursday following the two-vehicle crash at Wheeling and Palatine roads. Authorities said she died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Stamatis was driving her 2002 Mazda Protégé west in the Palatine Road express lanes about 11:26 p.m. Wednesday when the vehicle collided with a semitrailer truck headed eastbound on the local access frontage road. Police are continuing to probe the cause of the crash.
