Super PACs are not the problem

The amount of coverage given to Super PACs by the media is becoming more disturbing. The fact is, they do not buy one person’s vote. The real problem they are exposing is the education, or lack thereof, of the American voter.

We have become too influenced by 30-second ads, direct mailings and campaign signs. Too few of us research the candidates, read the newspaper and attend political events to really find out the truth in a campaign.

The Supreme Court has consistently said that individuals and groups have a right to free speech. Super PACs are exercising that right, no differently than any of us would if we wrote a book about a candidate.

As a government teacher, I try to instill the value of being an educated voter in my students. I only hope voters around the country can do the same.
