Aurora battled cold in fighting 3 fires in 24 hours

The Aurora Fire Department reports it responded to three working fires Monday and Tuesday, including two where people were displaced from their homes.

None of the residents were injured, and all are now staying with relatives, according to a news release from the department. One firefighter suffered a minor injury.

The below-zero temperatures complicated fighting the fires, as firefighters had difficulty opening hydrants.

The department credited having preconnected hose lines on the fire engines for its ability to quickly put out the fires. A preconnected hose line is already attached to the piping on the engine and can be filled with water from the water tank on the engine immediately.

The department also used extra workers because of the cold, and the Aurora Emergency Management Agency brought a warming trailer to the scenes, according to the release.
