Children need help against guns
Every time there was news of a school shooting or a child killing another child with a gun, I’d cry for the precious children and their loved ones mourning the tragedy. I found consolation in firing off letters to the editor, writing my congressional representative, marching in protes. I was compelled to do something to help stop our nation’s gun violence.
Upon hearing the news of a 6th grade child shot and killed by a teenager at an Iowa school, I realized I hadn’t shed a tear or written a letter to the editor since July. I cried today, realizing I seemed to have become immune to the horror of children killing one another with guns. This past week’s news of a 10-year-old killing another 10-year-old, a teen brother killing his sister, a teen killing his half-brother … I’d just sadly shaken my head.
Our children need advocates to step up and demand action from cowardly lawmakers who kowtow to the NRA and sidle alongside violence-inciting, insecure bullies while blocking gun regulations their constituents overwhelmingly support. We cannot become complacent about gun violence - every life matters and our precious children need us to speak out on their behalf.
