Elmhurst woman, two juveniles face charges after attack on motorist
An Elmhurst woman and two juveniles are charged with beating and robbing a motorist late Tuesday.
According to court papers, Marie Velez, 40, was standing along Grand Avenue near the Interstate 290 overpass with three others when she stepped into the eastbound lanes of Grand Avenue, forcing a 63-year-old motorist to stop his car to avoid hitting her.
Velez and two juveniles, ages 12 and 15, opened the driver’s side door and began punching the man in his head and face, authorities said. The trio also stole the man’s wallet and fled.
Police were called to a nearby motel just before 10:40 p.m. where they located the victim, who was suffering from cuts to his head and had visible marks on his face as well.
Police soon located Velez and the juveniles and took them all into custody.
Velez is charged with robbery of a victim over 60, aggravated battery in a public place, theft and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. She was ordered held at the DuPage County jail. Her next court date is slated for Feb. 5.
The two juveniles remain in custody until their next court date scheduled for Tuesday. They are charged with robbery, aggravated battery in a public place and theft.
