Elk Grove pedestrian bridge closes as replacement begins
The Clearmont Pedestrian Bridge over Salt Creek in Elk Grove Village is closed and will reopen upon the completion of a new bridge in May or June, village officials announced this week.
The new bridge will be twice as long as the old bridge, which was built in the 1980s, removing the structure from the floodplain, reducing flooding, and eliminating closures, according to the village.
It also will be wider to accommodate cyclists pulling trailers and create better shared space for both cyclists and pedestrians.
Lorig Construction of Des Plaines is the contractor on the $2.8 million project, village documents show. To stay updated on this project, visit http://tinyurl.com/yc5nsrbx.
