Man pleads guilty to recklessly discharging gun that hit man in the head in Elgin
A Carpentersville man pleaded guilty Tuesday to recklessly shooting a gun, hitting a man in the head.
Armani J. Morris, 19, of the 3000 block of Blue Ridge Drive, accepted a sentence of 180 days in jail and 24 months probation. He will begin serving his jail time on June 1.
Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Lori Anderson told Judge John Barsanti that on Feb. 19, 2023, Morris was playing video games with a friend when he discharged the gun. The shooting happened on the 500 block of East Chicago Street in Elgin. The victim was hospitalized. She did not say the extent of his injury.
Morris also pleaded guilty to another crime, aggravated battery of an emergency medical technician. According to Anderson, Morris’ mother had called an ambulance to take Morris to a hospital on June 15, 2023. While en route, Morris hit an EMT in the face.
He was sentenced to 180 days in jail and two years of probation on that charge, to be served concurrently with the sentence for the shooting.
Morris is allowed to delay his jail sentence so he can finish a school year.
