Cardinal George readmitted to Loyola University Medical Center

Cardinal Francis George has been hospitalized again for treatment of "hydration issues and pain management," an Archdiocese of Chicago spokeswoman said Saturday.

George has been readmitted to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood. He was released earlier this month after doctors monitored his condition since he stopped treatment for kidney cancer.

"He asks for and is grateful for your continued prayers," the diocese spokeswoman said in a statement Saturday.

George retired from the helm of the diocese in November.
