Akron to host celebration for hometown hero LeBron James

AKRON, Ohio (AP) - LeBron James' hometown of Akron is having its own celebration of the Cleveland Cavaliers' historic march to an NBA title.
Akron officials announced that gates will open for the celebration at 7 p.m. Thursday at Lock 3 park in downtown Akron. The city said additional details about the event will be announced. Admission to the event and downtown parking are free Thursday.
James was born and raised in Akron and attended St. Vincent St. Mary High School, where he was anointed as a teenager as a future NBA star. The Cavs took James with the first pick of the 2003 draft. He played seven seasons in Cleveland before leaving for the Miami Heat, where he helped that team win two championships.
He returned to the Cavs in 2014.
