Woman injured in snowmobile crash
Lake County sheriff's officials say a 33-year-old woman was injured Feb. 17, in a snowmobile crash in the 2600 block of North Wisteria Court in Port Barrington. The crash was reported about 9:35 p.m., and when deputies arrived they found the snowmobile driver on the ground, unconscious, officials said in a news release Thursday. The victim was taken to Good Shepherd Hospital near Barrington in critical condition. A preliminary investigation determined the driver was alone when she took the snowmobile for a short ride. As she proceeded, she accelerated rapidly, causing the front skis of the snowmobile to lift off the ground. The driver fell and struck her head on the pavement, and the snowmobile overturned, the release stated. Officials said alcohol may have played a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff's office technical crash investigations unit.
