Police: Suspect arrested after shooting at delivery driver
After a standoff of several hours, Antioch police arrested a man they say chased and fired gunshots at a delivery driver Saturday night outside an apartment complex.
Travis R. Malott, 34, of the 1200 block of Main Street, is charged with two felony counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and one felony count of aggravated discharge of a firearm, police said Sunday.
According to Antioch police, officers responded at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday to a report of shots fired in a parking lot in the 1200 block of Main Street.
When officers arrived at the Country Manor Apartments, they met with a delivery driver from a local restaurant, police said.. The driver told investigators that when he arrived at the complex, he was met by the suspect, who recognized him from a prior dispute.
The driver told officers Malott pulled a pistol and chased him to his vehicle, police said. Then as the driver attempted to flee, Malott fired several rounds at him and his vehicle, the driver told police. Neither he or the vehicle were hit, police said.
Malott went into his apartment and was uncooperative with responding officers, police said. The immediate area was blocked off for several hours, and officers from several area police departments, including a SWAT team from the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System, responded to assist.
Malott eventually surrendered at about 3 a.m. Sunday, according to police. Officers obtained a search warrant for Malott’s apartment, where investigators recovered two weapons, police said. Seven spent shell casings als wereo recovered from the parking lot.
“Having the resources and collaboration of our partner agencies, including the NIPAS SWAT team, is critical in bringing peaceful resolutions to situations like this,” Antioch Police Chief Geoffrey Guttschow said.
