Cartel office opens probe into ticketing system

BONN, Germany (AP) - Germany's cartel office is looking into the national football federation's ticketing system for fans wanting to attend this summer's European Championship in France.

The federation is asking fans to join a supporters' club it is running to become eligible for tickets for the tournament. Membership is subject to a fee.

The cartel office president Andreas Mundt says in a statement that getting tickets was hard enough since demand was much higher than supply.

Mundt says membership in the fan club does not guarantee a ticket but the membership fee remains. The federation also increases the price of tickets.

Mundt says such a linkage could be "exploitative abuse."
