Union beat New York City FC 2-0

CHESTER, Pa. (AP) - Chris Pontius and C.J. Sapong scored in the first half and the Philadelphia Union beat New York City FC 2-0 on Saturday.

Pontius opened the scoring in the 26th minute when he finished Tranquillo Barnetta's short cross with a right-footed shot from the top of the 6-yard box.

Sapong made it 2-0 in the 41st minute, redirecting Sebastien Le Toux's right-footed blast with a well-placed flick into the left corner.

The Union (4-3-0) set a team record with their fifth home win in a row. They bounced back from a 2-1 loss at Seattle and tied the Montreal Impact for the lead in the Eastern Conference standings.

City (1-2-4) had its winless streak extended to six games going back to its season-opening win.
