Report: White Sox sign veteran catcher Maldonado

According to a New York Post report, the White Sox are signing veteran catcher Martin Maldonado to a one-year contract with an option for 2025. The 37-year-old Maldonado played the last five seasons with the Astros and he’s best known for his ability to get the most out of pitching staffs. Over 13 major-league seasons with Houston, the Brewers, Angels, Royals and Cubs, Maldonado is a .207/.282/.349 hitter with 111 home runs and 361 RBI in 1,118 games. When he reports to spring training with the Sox in mid-February, Maldonado will compete with another newcomer, Max Stassi, and Korey Lee for playing time.
