Teen with a gun arrested in Des Plaines, police say

A Melrose Park teenager was taken into custody Saturday morning after police found a loaded firearm in his car during a traffic stop in Des Plaines, according to a news release.

Kevin Koonce, 18, of the 1500 block of North Herald Avenue, was charged with felony aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and misdemeanor unlawful possession of a firearm and firearm ammunition.

Des Plaines police stopped Koonce’s car about 9 a.m. Saturday on the 1100 block of East Golf Road after seeing him drive through a red light while turning onto Rand Road, according to the release.

Koonce doesn’t have a valid Firearm Owners Identification card, police said.
