What was once 1 of Indianapolis' oldest saloons for sale
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - A building that once housed one of the oldest saloons in Indianapolis is on the market.
The building that operated as Sam's Saloon has been closed since 2009. The Indianapolis Star (http://indy.st/2j0HZDJ ) reports that it's so old that about all owner Steven Mascher can say for sure is that it was built either in 1872 or 1885. It still has some reminders of its long history - starting with its original gas lights, back bar and a V that was painted on a mirror at the end of World War II.
Mascher bought the building in 1974 from the family of Sam Lorber, a man who was born there, ran a bar there and died there. Mascher later successfully got the building added to the National Register of Historic Places.
