Buffalo Grove man charged with setting mother's car on fire

A 23-year-old Buffalo Grove man is scheduled to appear in a Lake County courtroom Tuesday on a felony criminal damage to property alleging he set his mother's parked car on fire.

Police said Evan Rude, 23, of the 900 block of Lucinda Drive, was identified by video surveillance footage walking up to the car before it caught fire.

The fire occurred in the attached garage of a home on the 900 block of Lucinda Drive. It was reported about 9:15 p.m. Sept. 2 and put out shortly after.

Rude was arrested, then released Sept. 3 after posting $2,500 bond.

The Lake County state's attorney's office said Rude was charged last year with misdemeanor reckless conduct, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 18 months' probation.
