Letter: Responsive state rep
Imagine the same person breaking into your house over and over again, yet you find yourself helpless to stop the thievery. That is how I feel as a victim of identity theft. Someone stole my personal information and used it to wrongfully file for Illinois unemployment insurance benefits, for at least two years running.
My efforts to bring this financial nightmare to an end were largely fruitless.
That is why I turned to state Rep. Amy Grant, and I am grateful for her response. She quickly answered my plea for help. Her staff found answers to my questions and put me in touch with the appropriate state officials that I could not reach on my own, as hard as I tried. I don't know where my case stands now. But I am sure my situation would be far worse without my state representative's intervention.
I don't agree with everything Grant believes politically, and that can be debated. But public service also entails helping constituents when they are seemingly defenseless against correcting a mistake made by government that has brought stress into their lives. Just such a commitment to strong casework is why state Rep. Amy Grant has earned my vote.
