Girls soccer: Brousseau, Lake Zurich blank Hersey
Lake Zurich 2, Hersey 0: Kristin Brousseau had a goal and an assist, as Lake Zurich's girls soccer team blanked host Hersey 2-0 in a nonconference match Thursday.
Brosseau assisted on Rebecca Kubin's goal in the first half. Brousseau then scored off an assist from Kyra Ripoli in the second half. Madison Hart made 5 saves in earning the shutout for Lake Zurich (6-2).
Grayslake North 1, Vernon Hills 1: The Knights and the Cougars settled for a tie in the nonconference match.
"Tonight was another step in the right direction, for a large majority of the game," Grayslake North coach Adam DeCaluwe said. "In the first half, we were getting forward to put and keep Vernon Hills under as much pressure as possible."
The Knights (1-2-2) scored in the first half when, on a free kick, Morgan Lyon played a ball behind the defense and found Lauren Davis, who headed the ball in.
Vernon Hills got the equalizer in the second half with less than 10 minutes to go.
"In the second half, we started in a similar way as we looked to continue to play the way we did in the first half," DeCaluwe said. "Unfortunately, Vernon Hills stepped things up and managed to start winning more possession of the ball, applying more pressure to us and our back four."
Antioch 2, Westosha Central 0: Rachel Moore (ninth of the season) and Ella Roberts (fifth) scored for the Sequoits in their own tournament match.
Roberts also had an assist, as did Rebekah Cartlidge, as Antioch improved to 6-2-1.
Monica Wilhelm made 2 saves in notching her fourth shutout.
Naperville North 2, Stevenson 1: At New Trier, the Patriots lost the North Shore invite match, despite 8 saves from keeper Hannah Petrich.
