We need to make guns less accessible
Every day people are being impacted by gun violence in Illinois. Innocent lives are being lost and families are being ruined. Illinois should take charge of the issue of gun control to make changes in our society.
According to oneaimil.org, On average, someone is killed with a gun every 6 hours in Illinois, in an average year, at least 1,363 people die from gun violence. The laws currently put in place aren't efficient enough to create change are state needs.
Maps.everytownresearch.org states that the rate of gun deaths in Illinois increased 32% from 2009 to 2018, compared to an 18% increase over this same time period nationwide.
There has been no change or discussion of this issue. There haven't been any series of laws or restrictions put in place yet.
Our poor gun control laws are killing nearly 40,000 Americans every year. We must take action to create change.
I believe that Illinois should significantly increase the amount of gun control regulations and make guns less accessible to individuals in order to bring about the necessary change.
