Elgin family displaced by kitchen fire
None were injured in a kitchen fire that displaced an Elgin family Friday, officials say.
The fire started at 12:25 p.m. in a single-family home on 300 block of Moseley Street, and crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the first floor of the two-story home, according to a news release from the Elgin Fire Department. The fire was under control within 18 minutes.
Members of the family were checked out by paramedics, but no one was taken to the hospital, fire officials said.
Although the flames were contained to the kitchen, the house sustained heavy smoke damage and the fire caused about $30,000 in damage, according to the release.
Red Cross will help the family make housing arrangements, officials said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
