Suit over police chase shows social decline

Headline at the top front page of Nov 10 Daily Herald: "They died in a crash while fleeing from police. Who's to blame?"

Really? As my mother used to say. "Someone needs to put their thinking cap on."

Who was driving recklessly and making so much noise someone called the police to complain? The girls. And when the police arrived, who chose to flee the police? The girls. Who chose to drive recklessly 90 mph on city streets? The girls. And who chose to go through a red light at high speed, struck a car at the intersection, critically injuring the driver, before careening into a tow truck and their car burst into flames. killing them both. The girls. They paid a heavy price for their poor decisions and lack of judgment.

And now, two years later, a lawyer and some family members are suing the police department and a police officer for the poor decision and bad judgment of their daughters. What kind of training did they have that failed to teach them to respect the law, police officers and use their intelligence to make smart decisions? It used to be that way, and it was a much better country back then.

I think my mother was right. It's time for people to start putting their thinking caps on here and now and take responsibility for their actions.
