DePaul sweeps Big East player and coach of the year awards
CHICAGO (AP) - DePaul guard Chanise Jenkins was honored as the Big East player of the year Wednesday.
She averaged 15.7 points and 5.4 assists in conference games this season to lead the 18th-ranked Blue Demons to the regular-season title. The Blue Demons' Doug Bruno was selected as the conference's coach of the year for the second time in three seasons.
Marquette's Allazia Blockton earned freshman of the year honors days after breaking the conference's rookie scoring record.
Other award winners include Aliyyah Handford of St. John's as defensive player of the year, Adrianna Hall of Villanova as sixth-woman and McKayla Yentz of Marquette as most improved.
